This position is in Supply Chain Management (SCM) in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. The primary purpose of this position is transporting Veterans - visitors - staff and supplies and equipment from the main warehouse to various locations at an assigned Veterans Administration medical facility and any additional location - i.e. - Outpatient Clinic (s) - National Cemetery - and VA Regional office - as needed.

Qualifications

DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: This position requires a current - valid state driver's license. Please do not upload a copy of your license at this time. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires reaching - turning - or moving hands - arms - feet - and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Incumbents will be required to assist patients with a variety of medical conditions and/or disabilities. Associated duties require stooping - bending - lifting - climbing - and securing patients - oxygen - and wheelchairs with appropriate securing devices. Lifts and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier. Must follow prescribed safety procedures using appropriate lifting methods and body mechanics for heavy lifting or moving heavy objects. Must be able to drive for a minimum of a four-hour period and stay mentally alert. If driver realizes they are not mentally alert - they must use good judgment in pulling over at the first safe area - road- checking vehicle with walk-around inspection - and continue driving as soon as possible. Incumbents must pass a VA Physical and adhere to all VA and DOT drug and alcohol testing and guidelines. WORK CONDITIONS: Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of weather. Drivers are exposed to dirt - fumes - and to the possibility of cuts - bruises - and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. Must have ability to drive in rural areas - very congested Metropolitan traffic and/or construction zones. Must safely handle patients - both stretchers and wheelchairs - in loading and unloading from vans and buses. The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours - which may include evenings - weekends - and/or holidays. Shift work may be required. May be required to work overtime after normal working hours providing it is an emergency or their services are needed to transport patients.

Duties

• Major duties and responsibilities include: Operates vehicles such as shuttle carts/golf carts - vans - pickup trucks - panel trucks - flatbed trucks - carryalls - sedans - crew cab pickup trucks - and sports utility vehicles which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 4500 kilograms (10 -000 pounds)
• Handles cargo loading and unloading from vehicles to provide timely delivery of supplies and equipment directly to users or to storage areas and completes documentation to record activities
• Secures cargo to prevent damage to contents during transport and ensures that the vehicle is not loaded beyond the maximum capacity
• Loads and unloads by hand but may use a handcart to transport items
• Protects materials - supplies and equipment from the elements
• Vehicle transport includes medical and office supplies - equipment - and mail over Federal - State and Country roads in all traffic conditions - on specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules
• Performs routine safety and maintenance checks on the vehicle to include - but not limited to - the addition of fuels or lubricants and the checking of tire pressure
• Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance both the inside and outside of the vehicle
• Completes all maintenance service records to document activities
• Provides courtesy rides to staff - Veterans - and visitors as needed to and from parking lots or garages and/or to and from buildings on the facility campus
• Assists in areas like the warehouse to receive - store - and move materials and equipment
• Performs other related duties as assigned
