Apply now to join an organization where you truly make a difference.Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is currently hiring a Motor Equipment Operator III/Leverman to perform a variety of labor and maintenance tasks on the City dredge, piping, and related equipment, including:Duties:Safely operate the dredging vessel (Rudee II) while excavating material at Rudee Inlet.Safely operate the skiff (small boat), tender (tugboat), and other support vessels to connect and disconnect pipelines, tow and maneuver the dredge and floating equipment, set and retrieve dredge swing anchors, transport crew members, and support navigational aid maintenance and repair.Safely operate heavy equipment, including a backhoe, bulldozer, forklift, excavator, and crane, in support of dredging operations.Utilize onboard computer systems to maximize dredging production and operational efficiency.Monitor vessel traffic, sea state, and weather conditions to ensure the safe operation of dredging equipment and support vessels.Ensure safe work practices are followed by verifying proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), overseeing routine equipment inspections and operational logs completed by the oiler, and taking appropriate precautions to prevent accidents and incidents.Oil, maintain, clean, and paint dredge machinery and mechanical components, and assist with clearing debris and pipeline blockages.Complete assignments as directed by the supervisor based on operational needs and workload.Follow instructions carefully and work diligently to accomplish assigned objectives.Communicate professionally and respectfully with citizens, coworkers, and supervisors.Perform other related duties as assigned.An Ideal Candidate:Experience operating a dredge.Work Schedule:Labor Day-Memorial Day: Fri. 6:30 am – 9:00 pm; Sat. 6:30 am – 8:00 pm; Sun. 6:30 am 8:30 pmMemorial Day-Labor Day: Fri. 3:30 pm – 6:00 am; Sat. 3:30 pm – 5:00 am; Sun. 3:30 pm – 5:00 amorLabor Day – Memorial Day: 6:30 am-5:00 pm, Monday-ThursdayMemorial Day – Labor Day: 12:00 am-10:30 am*Employees receive an additional 5% shift differential for Memorial Day-Labor Day.*Pre-employment physical required.Must possess a valid Driver's License (VA or NC)** CDL preferred; however, not required.
