The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator/Leverman|Captain to perform dredging and related equipment tasks on the Rudee II and associated systems. You will operate vessels, heavy machinery, and support equipment to maintain dredging operations and safety.

The ideal candidate has dredge/boat experience, a valid CDL, and readiness to work varied shifts, including overtime during emergencies, with strong safety and teamwork focus in a dynamic city

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: Tenth grade plus five years experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with positions as Motor Equipment Operator or Heavy Equipment Operator.
• Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
• This is a safety sensitive position with mandatory drug testing and the ability to wear PPE.

Responsabilités

• Operate the dredging vessel Rudee II and related equipment safely.
• Operate the skiff, tender, and other support vessels to maneuver dredging assets and connect pipelines.
• Operate heavy equipment (backhoe, bulldozer, forklift, excavator, crane, HDPE fusion machine) as needed.
• Use onboard computer programs to maximize production and maintain logs/reports.
• Monitor vessel traffic, sea state and weather for safe operations.
• Lead crew in absence of supervisor and train staff on equipment use.
• Communicate professionally with citizens, coworkers, and supervisors.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
