Job summary

Oregon Department of Transportation is seeking a Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer 1 to join the Commerce and Compliance Division in the Blue Mountain Region (Umatilla). The role focuses on enforcing size, weight, registration and safety laws for commercial vehicles, inspecting drivers, records, and cargo, and providing education and regulatory action to support safe motor carrier operations.

Qualifications

Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone, providing information about services/programs, or explaining and/or applying laws, rules, regulations/procedures;
Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
Completion of an Associate's degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.

Responsibilities

Monitor and maintain safe and efficient scale operations at weigh stations.
Evaluate commercial motor vehicles entering weigh stations for compliance and registration.
Issue citations and calculate fees accurately.
Prepare written reports and provide expert testimony when representing ODOT in court cases.
Travel statewide and be willing to work a rotating 8- or 10-hour shift to cover 24/7 operations.
