Job summary

Qualifications

• High school graduates and shall have had at least three (3) years practical experience in the transportation industry or in the field of law enforcement
• Shall have one (1) year of CLEET certified law enforcement experience in motor carrier enforcement for a regulatory agency
• Shall have attained the age of twenty-one (21) years

Responsibilities

• Patrols roads and highways or operates a weigh station to identify motor carriers in violation of state regulatory laws, stops violators, inspects documents for compliance.
• Enforces state size and weight laws and overweight/oversize permits.
• Issues citations or warnings and handles fees and penalties per state law; may detain violators; testifies at trials and hearings.
• Impasses vehicles until properly registered and fees paid.
• Performs vehicle and driver safety inspections in accordance with national standards.
• Provides assistance to law enforcement and motor vehicle license agents regarding motor vehicle and fuel laws.
• Liaises with the public on motor carrier issues and explains statutory requirements.
• Investigates complaints regarding service, damage, illegal dumping and hazardous materials.
• Responds to accident scenes involving deleterious materials and provides guidance at the scene.
• Performs inspections at illegal dumping sites and assists legal with trials or hearings.
• Conducts investigations involving pollution-related incidents.
