Job summary

AMIA | Assn of Moving Image Archivists in Culpeper, Virginia is seeking Film Archiving Technicians (part-time and full-time) to support a large-scale motion picture archival project. You will inspect, identify, rehouse, and inventory historic film materials while adhering to established archival handling and descriptive standards.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in archives or in the subject matter of the archive.
• Familiarity with preservation standards for different material types.
• Certification or degree in film preservation or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Physically inspect film cans and elements.
• Identify titles, reel numbers, and identifying information.
• Identify film elements (negatives, prints, soundtracks, etc.).
• Capture metadata using inventory systems.
• Assess and document physical condition and preservation concerns.
• Rehouse materials in archival cans and apply barcodes.
• Label, organize, and maintain inventories for transfer to storage.
• Follow Library of Congress handling, preservation, and standards.
• Attend weekly project meetings and training.
