Job summary

RieLes Group is seeking a Film Archivist to support the Library of Congress Motion Picture Film Archiving Project at the Library of Congress Packard Campus in Culpeper, Virginia.

The ideal candidate will identify, handle, inspect, and document films, create inventories and metadata, and follow established archival procedures. This is an onsite role with immediate start and strict safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in identifying, handling, inspecting motion picture film.
• Knowledge of archival analysis, organization, description and basic preservation.
• Ability to enter and maintain archival/inventory data accurately.

Responsibilities

• Identify film titles, reels and various element types (negatives, prints, soundtracks).
• Inspect film condition and document shrinkage or vinegar syndrome.
• Perform preservation triage, rehousing and labeling for storage.
• Apply labels/barcodes to film materials and containers accurately.
• Create inventories, metadata and archival documentation.
• Assist with development/refinement of film processing procedures.
• Track processing activities, results and quality-control metrics.
• Prepare progress reports and project documentation.
• Participate in weekly LOC staff meetings and follow safety procedures.
