Job summary

LAC Federal in Culpeper, VA is seeking detail-oriented Film Archiving Technicians to support preservation of historical motion-picture collections for a major federal cultural heritage institution. You will inspect, identify, document, rehouse, barcode, and inventory film materials, coordinating with the Film Archivist and agency staff.

This hands-on role combines film handling with accurate audiovisual metadata and quality control to ensure reliable intellectual control and safe long-term

Qualifications

• Six months of library/archives experience.
• Expertise in motion-picture film identification, handling, and inspection.
• Ability to identify and manage varied film elements including camera negatives and soundtracks.
• Knowledge of historic motion-picture formats and archival principles.
• Ability to identify preservation concerns and perform basic rehousing.
• Effective communication with agency staff and project personnel.
• Ability to work onsite in Culpeper, VA and obtain credentials.
• Education/training appropriate to FEDLINK labor-category qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Process priority motion-picture collections per processing plans.
• Inspect 16mm and 35mm film to identify titles and reel numbers.
• Document film elements including negatives, prints, and soundtracks.
• Examine unidentified materials and consult staff.
• Assess film condition and preservation needs.
• Perform basic preservation and rehouse films.
• Enter inventory and metadata into agency systems.
• Apply barcodes and reconcile records.
• Review processing accuracy and document quality-control actions.
• Maintain production logs and reporting data.
• Participate in weekly meetings and required training.
