Job summary

First American is seeking an Associate Operations Counsel to provide in-house legal and regulatory guidance for mortgage servicing and origination. You will advise operational teams, draft contracts and policies, and interface with regulators as needed.

The role focuses on mortgage servicing documents, regulatory trends, and compliance. You will collaborate with operations, product, technology and compliance teams to ensure accuracy and reduce legal risk across the business.

Qualifications

• Law Degree required.
• Admitted to practice law in the US.
• Licensed to practice law, in good standing.
• Direct experience with residential mortgage servicing regulations.
• Knowledge of RESPA (Reg X) and TILA (Reg Z).
• Experience researching, reviewing mortgage servicing documents.
• Familiarity with government agency and investor requirements.
• Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical documentation.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
• Developed legal research, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely legal support to divisions while minimizing risk.
• Offer practical legal counsel to operations, product, technology, and compliance teams.
• Research and interpret mortgage servicing laws and regulations.
• Review and maintain mortgage servicing documents and forms.
• Monitor regulatory changes and assess impact on processes.
• Collaborate with internal teams to address servicing documentation questions.
• Work with clients' legal and compliance contacts to resolve questions.
