Job summary

Chesapeake Bank is seeking a Mortgage Loan Assistant to support a busy lending team in the Northern Neck area. You will receive loan applications, interview customers, and help move files through the approval process while delivering friendly, accurate service.

The role emphasizes organization, attention to detail, and compliance, with opportunities to grow within the mortgage and banking field as you gain licensing and experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months to one year of office experience.
  • Good understanding of financial institution products and services.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Mortgage Loan Officer by receiving loan applications and interviewing customers to initiate the loan approval process.
  • Type reports and forms, manage pipelines, and follow up with borrowers for documentation.
  • Key loans into the mortgage system and forward files to MLOPS.
  • Collect necessary documentation from borrowers to complete the application package.
  • Handle loan closings and delinquency collections as needed.

Summary:

Assists Mortgage Loan Officer by receiving loan applications and interviewing customers to initiate the loan approval process.


Responsibilities:


  • Obtain Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) licensing.

  • Provide assistance to the Loan Officer, including typing reports and forms, pipeline management, and following up with borrowers for necessary documentation.

  • Assists with keying loans into the mortgage system and forwards file to MLOPS.

  • Collects necessary documentation from borrowers to complete application package.

  • Handles loan closings in or out of the branch if needed.

  • Handles collection of delinquent loans.

  • Identifies the need for, orders and has executed change in terms agreements and various servicing of loan customers. Performs variety of clerical duties requiring knowledge of departmental procedures. Uses office computers for data input and other activities, and orders credit reports.

  • Cross-markets financial institution products and services as appropriate.

  • Assists other departments on a temporary basis as needed during peak hours.

  • Attends mandatory annual classes offered by the financial institution.

  • Understand your role as defined by the three lines of defense to maintain a compliance culture that includes risk management processes

  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Six months to one year of experience in an office environment.

  • Successful completion of in-house training program (if available) or approved outside training program.

  • Good understanding of financial institution products and services.

  • Good understanding of computer spreadsheet and word processing programs, i.e. Microsoft product suite, Excel, Word, etc.

  • One year of working as a mortgage loan assistant, loan processor or equivalent.

  • General understanding of mortgage loan products (Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, Jumbo).
