Job summary

Hancock Whitney in Baton Rouge, LA seeks an experienced Mortgage Loan Officer to originate conventional, FHA, VA, and RD loans in a compliant manner. You will support borrowers with expert guidance, coordinate with processors and underwriters, and promote bank products to the community.

The role requires knowledge of underwriting guidelines, investor requirements, and state/federal laws. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for success in a fast-paced lending environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 2 years of sales experience required.
• 2+ years of Mortgage origination experience is preferred.
• NMLS registration under the SAFE Act is required after start date.
• Knowledge of mortgage laws and procedures at federal/state/local levels.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
• Excellent communication, analytical, customer service and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with all levels of personnel.
• Strong presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides expert mortgage advice to potential borrowers.
• Stays current with underwriting policy, investor guidelines and applicable laws.
• Develops and maintains referral networks with realtors and community sources.
• Manages a clean mortgage loan pipeline coordinating with processors, underwriters and closers.
• Delivers compliance documents and disclosures timely.
• Takes a thorough application and collects required documentation for verification.
• Prepares borrowers for the process and keeps all parties updated on status.
• Informs applicants of closing costs and coordinates the closing.
• Interviews loan applicants to document income, debt and credit history.
• Notifies applicants of loan denial or acceptance.
• Keeps team updated on industry changes and regulatory requirements.
