Job summary

Washington Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth (CDHY) in Vancouver, WA, is seeking a Student Life Counselor for the morning shift (Mon-Fri 6:30am–8:30am). This school-year based role supports deaf and hard-of-hearing students as they start the day and ensures safety and well-being.

The position requires a high school diploma, at least one school year of instructional group experience with children, and proficiency in American Sign Language.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least one school year of experience working with children in an instructional setting.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
  • Ability to develop innovative ideas to address workplace challenges.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, families and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and care for WSD students during morning routines and activities.
  • Monitor student safety in residential areas, cafeteria, and academic buildings.
  • Assist students to transition to the academic buildings and ensure on-time arrival.
  • Maintain logs and documentation of student behaviors and incidents.
  • Communicate issues to supervisors and coworkers.
  • Maintain clean and safe living areas.
