Job summary

Young World Physical Education in Newberg, OR seeks a Bus Communication Support Specialist (ASL Required) to assist a deaf or hard of hearing student during daily bus transportation. You will facilitate communication between the student, bus driver, and staff to ensure safety and inclusion.

Responsibilities include using ASL, supporting safety communications, and collaborating with district personnel. This is a part-time, 185-day position with benefits and confidentiality commitments.

Qualifications

  • ASL Level 3 proficiency or equivalent demonstrated signing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and families.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality under FERPA and district policies.
  • Successful completion of required background checks and district employment requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide communication support for a deaf or hard of hearing student during daily bus transportation.
  • Use ASL to facilitate communication between student and others as appropriate.
  • Support understanding of safety procedures, announcements, and transportation information.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, respectful bus environment.
  • Observe and report safety or communication concerns to school personnel.
  • Maintain professional boundaries while encouraging independence and self-advocacy.
  • Collaborate with transportation staff and educational team as needed.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings related to student support and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information at all times.
