Job summary

The Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth in Vancouver, WA is seeking a non-permanent Paraeducator for the 2025/26 school year, with possible extension. The role supports deaf and hard of hearing students under teacher direction and includes varied classroom assignments across ages.

Schedule is Monday–Thursday mornings to early afternoons and Friday mornings. Remote work is not available; on-campus duties include field trips supervision, lunch supervision, and collaboration with teams to

Qualifications

  • Fluency in ASL and written English.
  • Strong knowledge of Deaf culture.
  • Experience in an educational setting with pre-k–12th grade students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Willing and able to work with students across Pre-K to 12th grade.
  • Willing and able to adapt to changes, including ongoing one-on-one support.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction and supervision of students in various educational settings including classroom, job environments and off-campus settings (field trip locations).
  • Works directly with students to carry out lesson plans and activities.
  • Modifies instruction to meet individual learning needs, including language adaptation and reading support.
  • Supervises and corrects student behavior per individual plans.
  • Administers tests, quizzes, and assists with assessments.
  • Participates in meetings to report on student development and assist academic leadership.
  • Supervises students during passing times and lunch periods.
  • Maintains positive relationships with students and fosters openness and honesty.
  • Provides a safe learning environment and communicates concerns regarding wellness, safety, and learning needs.
  • Acts as a mandated reporter of child abuse and neglect.
  • Participates as an active team member on committees related to student development.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
