Job summary

Wheaton College in Massachusetts is seeking a Custodian - 1st Shift to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming facilities across campus. The role includes custodial work, furniture movement, event support and general operations to support students, staff and guests.

The position runs 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Sunday through Thursday, with overtime and shift differential for hours outside the first shift. Prior custodial or customer service experience is preferred; a High School diploma or equivalent

Qualifications

• Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal supervision to meet required deadlines.
• Ability to work independently, resolve problems and function as a member of a team.
• Ability to lift and move heavy furniture and operate bulky and heavy equipment.
• Physically capable of lifting 40 -50 lbs.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedure.

Responsibilities

• Custodial Services: clean all building areas and furnishings with appropriate equipment and safety measures.
• Waste & Recycling: remove rubbish, empty containers and manage recycling.
• Safety & Security: follow safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions.
• Emergency Response: provide department emergency response services and work overtime as needed.
• Furniture movement: move and rearrange furnishings as needed.
• Event Support: assist with campus event setups and breakdowns.
• Service & Support: respond to work orders and complaints professionally.
• Other Duties: perform additional duties as assigned or trained.
