Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Molecular Technologist II to perform pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic tasks in the Cytogenetics and/or Molecular Laboratories. You will ensure proper specimen handling, accurate test performance, and timely reporting of results to support patient diagnosis and treatment.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related field with 1 year of Molecular or Cytogenetics lab experience; ASCP MB/CG certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health
• 1 year experience in Molecular or Cytogenetics Clinical Laboratory or eligible to take the ASCP MB or CG certification examination

Responsibilities

• Performs pre-analytic workflow for Cytogenetics and Molecular labs to ensure correct orders and specimen handling
• Performs analytical testing with appropriate test systems and maintains instrument integrity
• Performs post-analytic tasks including reporting results and ensuring accuracy of documentation
• Maintains QC and validates test results with appropriate interpretation and reporting
• Troubleshoots issues, escalates when necessary, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards
• Participates in training and supports continuous quality improvement
