Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a laboratory professional to perform specimen testing and analysis to aid clinicians in diagnosis and treatment. The role ensures quality control, QA, and equipment maintenance are documented and upheld to standards.

The candidate will act as a SME and technical consultant in the Molecular Biology department. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in lab science or related field, and less than one year of clinical lab experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or related field is required.
• Less than one year of clinical laboratory training/experience required.
• MLS certification through ASCP or equivalent; or waiver if master’s degree or 3 years of experience in a designated specialty.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and specialized testing; evaluates specimen adequacy and collects specimens.
• Reviews test results, documents findings, and communicates unusual results to the appropriate personnel.
• Maintains quality control/QA measures and keeps instruments and reagents ready; ensures turnaround times are met.
• Provides training and educational support to students and new employees.
• Provides technical advice and support to laboratory staff and communicates shifts information to maintain operations.
