Job Summary

The Mold Shop Supervisor will have direct supervisory responsibility for Mold Technician and Mold Maker activities to ensure molds are maintained as specified and scheduled. Minimize job times required while ensuring safety in an efficient way to meet or exceed daily planned event schedule and maintain tooling costs.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Supervise and assign tasks to personnel to meet or exceed daily planned event schedule. Monitor progress during shift and take corrective action when required.
2. Lead Mold Technicians and Mold Makers in operating and maintaining a variety of machine tools to cut, create, maintain, and repair molds and tooling as required. Tasks may include but are not limited to grinding, EDM, milling, drilling, engraving, turning, disassembling, and assembling of molds as necessary.
3. Prepare various documents such as work orders using MES, mold status in Hydra when a job is completed, hours, and details of work performed (estimate time, capturing time, preventive maintenance, changeover, and cost related to time (labor)).
4. Obtain quotes for mold repairs, tooling, cleaning, and polishing components. Communicate with Manager and/or Purchasing Agent for ordering mold-related components.
5. Support or coach for mold repairs during process setup as necessary.
6. Update Kronos for attendance of direct reports as required.
7. Ensure mold safety and good working condition by checking MES for mold history. Make comments and create job sheets if no history has been recorded.
8. Ensure molds are maintained according to company and relevant quality standards before turning over to production.
9. Update status of Mold Red Tags issued by Quality Control/Production as required.
10. Operate forklift and lifting devices to position molds or tooling during maintenance and repair.
11. Participate in daily meetings with Mold Tooling Manager, Production Supervisor, Process Engineer, and Production Scheduler to communicate goals for the day.
12. Ensure compliance with quality standards, ISO procedures, and customer specifications.
13. Identify, report, and follow up on mold maintenance issues using the work order system.
14. Participate in hiring and training of new employees.
15. Conduct trials for new production tools or equipment, record results, and discuss with Mold Tooling Manager.
16. Meet cost standards for mold repairs, preventive maintenance, and supplies, contributing to plant cost reduction.
17. Coordinate with Quality Control and Maintenance for quality issues and repairs.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities

1. Promote and enforce health, safety, and environmental policies, monitor safety performance.
2. Maintain and enforce 5S standards.
3. Ensure staff receives necessary training and conducts job-specific orientation.
4. Participate in safety activities, investigations, and hazard assessments.
5. Be the area warden, perform headcounts, and report in emergencies.
6. Participate in continuous improvement and safety committees.

Qualifications & Experience

1. Certified Mold MAKER.
2. At least 15 years’ experience in plastic manufacturing and 10 years in Mold Making.
3. Familiarity with ISO 9001 and manufacturing processes is an asset.
4. Experience with shop equipment.
5. Supervisory experience is an asset.

Work Conditions

The role involves both office and plant environments, requiring physical labor such as lifting (25-50 lbs.), standing, and walking. Conditions may include noise, dust, fumes, and heat. The incumbent must adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment.
