Job summary

North Idaho Dermatology seeks a versatile Histotechnician to support Mohs surgery and Surgical Pathology laboratories in Coeur d'Alene. You will prepare frozen tissue sections, perform H&E and special stains, and assist with IHC testing, ensuring accurate and timely processing to support patient diagnosis.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree or higher in laboratory science and is comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical lab with dermatologic surgeons, pathologists, and staff.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in Laboratory Science, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biology preferred.
• Willing to train — histology experience preferred.
• Mohs frozen sectioning experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Part-time to full-time availability; day shift with early morning coverage.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process frozen tissue specimens for Mohs micrographic surgery.
• Embed, section, stain, and mount frozen tissue sections with precision.
• Maintain orientation and mapping accuracy of Mohs specimens.
• Perform quality control of frozen sections to ensure diagnostic accuracy.
• Communicate with Mohs surgeons and staff regarding specimen status and workflow.
• Process surgical pathology specimens (paraffin blocks, microtome sections, H&E staining).
• Perform immunohistochemical staining and troubleshoot as needed.
• Maintain documentation for QA, reagent tracking, and instrument maintenance.
• Follow CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and safety standards.
