Job summary

The Division of Technology Services is seeking a Telecommunications Specialist II - Mobile Field Technician to travel Utahwide and install/maintain telecom systems, fiber, and VOIP equipment. You will work with IT teams, manage inventory, and document activity during extensive field work.

Candidates should be prepared for overnight travel, after-hours schedules, and on-call duties while upholding safety and quality standards across diverse sites.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive understanding of wiring types, fiber optics, network topologies, and POTS including color codes.
• Reading and applying technical manuals, schematics and documentation clearly and accurately.
• Able to communicate complex info to technical and non-technical stakeholders, in writing and verbally.
• Ability to perform physical exertion, lift up to 51 lbs, and work with ladders/scaffolding.
• Willingness to travel; inclement weather and overnight stays may be required.
• Demonstrated self-starter with ability to follow complex instructions independently.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and route structured cabling and telecom equipment.
• Pull and label cabling and fiber across diverse environments.
• Deploy VoIP phones and data circuits with carriers.
• Install and troubleshoot wireless and radio equipment.
• Recommend and install audio-visual and conferencing systems.
• Collaborate with networking/IT teams to resolve data-communications issues.
• Manage inventory of 30–200 items and coordinate at TSOB.
• Maintain logs and documentation of installations and repairs.
• Resolve tickets on first call with on-site support.
• Travel statewide with routine overnight stays and on-call rotations.
