Job Summary:
The Koch Trucking Mobile Technician II performs intermediate-level diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on tractors and trailers. You will handle more complex tasks than a Mobile Technician I and ensure all work meets Koch Companies and DOT standards. This is a mobile role requiring travel to various customer and company sites for on-site service.
Compensations Package:
- $29.71 - $41.59/hour
- Starting pay within this range will be based on relevant experience, skills and qualifications
- $7,500 Hiring Bonus
Available Shift:
- Monday - Friday: 6:00AM - 2:30PM
Location:
Essential Job Functions:
- Practice safe work habits by adhering to all Koch Companies policies, procedures, and standards
- Perform scheduled maintenance and advanced repairs, including all skills from SKT Mobile Tech I checklist, plus:
- DOT Compliance: Conduct inspections and repairs to meet state and federal DOT standards
- Liftgate Maintenance: Replace hydraulic cylinders, perform electrical diagnostics and wiring repairs, and conduct fluid changes
- Reefer Units: Perform routine maintenance (e.g., filter changes, battery checks) and replace basic electronic components such as sensors and alternators
- Trailer Repairs: Conduct roll door repairs (e.g., track and hinge adjustments) and inspect and repair landing gear
- Electrical Systems: Read and interpret fault codes, troubleshoot and replace ABS sensors
- Welding and Fabrication: Perform minor steel repairs and practice basic aluminum welding techniques
- Advanced Diagnostics and Repairs: Troubleshoot CEL (Check Engine Light) issues, perform intermediate brake system repairs (e.g., shoes, pads, drums), diagnose suspension issues (e.g., shock absorbers), and replace injectors in field-accessible environments.
- Conduct visual inspections for DOT compliance and ensure repairs meet DOT standards.
- Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical documentation for diagnostics and repairs
- Drive tractors for short distances to verify diagnostics and confirm proper function after repairs
- Document maintenance, inspections, and repair activities accurately.
Secondary Job Functions:
- Serve as a representative of the Company, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Koch community, customers and with the public.
- Cross training as required
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned
Working Conditions:
- Work performed outdoors from a mobile service truck in all weather conditions
- Regular exposure to loud equipment, maintenance fluids, and varying environmental conditions
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of experience in tractor and trailer maintenance
- Ability to independently complete advanced repairs
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in advanced diagnostics and repairs
- Associates degree (AAS) in Heavy Duty Truck Technology, Diesel Mechanics, or related
- Valid CDL A or CDL B license preferred
- Ability to independently complete advanced repairs
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in intermediate-level maintenance and repairs on tractors and trailers.
- Ability to interpret and troubleshoot advanced system fault codes.
- Working knowledge of brake systems, suspension, liftgate hydraulics, and electrical diagnostics.
- Basic welding skills in steel and aluminum.
- Strong understanding of DOT compliance standards.
- Ability to work independently while ensuring quality, safety, and compliance.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 50+ lbs regularly
- Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, climbing, and working around and under vehicles
- Prolonged periods standing, walking, and driving
- Ability to sit for extended periods while traveling
- Hearing ability to detect equipment sounds, backup alarms, and verbal communications
- Visual acuity sufficient to read manuals, computer screens, and inspect vehicle parts
- Ability to meet all safety and physical requirements for the role
