Job summary

EXCEL Group in United States, Texas, Freeport is seeking an experienced Mobile Equipment Mechanic to maintain forklifts, heavy equipment, trailers and other mobile assets at our industrial facility. The role involves performing preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs to minimize downtime and ensure safe operation of all equipment.

You will document repairs and parts used, read technical diagrams, and coordinate with supervisors and planners.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience maintaining industrial mobile equipment
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, braking and driveline systems
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing forklifts, aerial lifts, trucks and trailers
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, diagrams, schematics and service docs
  • Experience using CMMS is preferred and beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on forklifts, aerial lifts, skid steers, trucks, trailers and other mobile equipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and diesel engine systems
  • Inspect equipment to identify wear, damage, and potential failures before operations are affected
  • Document repairs, inspections, parts used and labor performed in work orders
  • Perform preventative maintenance per manufacturer recommendations and maintenance schedules
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and complete repairs to minimize downtime
  • Replace and repair components including brakes, steering, suspension, drivetrain, hydraulics, engines, transmissions and electrical systems
  • Safely operate diagnostic tools, welding equipment and power tools
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work area following safety policies and OSHA regulations
  • Communicate issues and repair status with supervisors, planners and operations
  • Assist with inspections, regulatory compliance and equipment readiness
  • Support emergency repairs during breakdowns as needed
  • Assist with parts inventory and materials needed for repairs

We are seeking an experienced Mobile Equipment Mechanic to perform maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on forklifts, heavy equipment, light-duty vehicles, trailers, and other mobile assets supporting operations at an industrial facility. This is a hands‑on role responsible for maintaining equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and ensuring safe operation of all assigned equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on forklifts, aerial lifts, skid steers, trucks, trailers, utility vehicles, and other mobile equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and diesel engine systems.
  • Inspect equipment to identify wear, damage, and potential failures before they impact operations.
  • Complete work orders accurately and document repairs, inspections, parts used, and labor performed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and complete repairs in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • Replace and repair components including brakes, steering, suspension, drivetrain, hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
  • Safely operate diagnostic tools, welding equipment, hand tools, and power tools required for repairs.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or vocational certification in diesel technology, heavy equipment maintenance, automotive technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience maintaining industrial mobile equipment, forklifts, heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, or similar equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, braking systems, drivetrain components, and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing forklifts, aerial lifts, construction equipment, trucks, and trailers.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical diagrams, schematics, and service documentation.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform work in various indoor and outdoor industrial environments.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Forklift, aerial lift, CDL, or manufacturer certifications are a plus.
Preferred Experience
  • Industrial manufacturing, petrochemical, refinery, chemical plant, mining, or heavy construction environments.
  • Welding, fabrication, and equipment modification experience.
  • Experience with predictive and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Familiarity with mobile equipment inspection standards and regulatory requirements.
