Overview

Company Cox Automotive USA Job Family Group: Vehicle Operations Job Profile: Mobile Diesel Tech II - DOT Management Level: Individual Contributor Flexible Work Option: Can work remotely but need to live in the specified city, state, or region Travel: 100% of the time Work Shift: Evening Compensation: Hourly base pay rate is $26.73 - $40.10/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission and/or an incentive program.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
• Perform minor adjustments and repairs on equipment including electrical, braking, cooling systems, starters/alternators, engine electronics, diesel and gas engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and related components.
• Diagnose, adjust, and repair electrical, braking, conditioning, engine, and drivetrain systems; inspect and test equipment using appropriate tools and instruments.
• Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
• Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
• Operate and maintain the company-issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
• Collaborate with clients to assess needs, provide information, resolve issues, and meet expectations.
• Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively; handle multiple concurrent assignments.
• Document work according to company standards and upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on RO using the TRAIT application on an iOS device; complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
• Work with a high degree of independence and maintain productivity within standard repair times.
• Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed for repairs; seek approvals on repair estimates and purchase orders as required.
• Ensure all work complies with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field; or an alternative combination such as a higher level degree/certification with 3 years of related experience, or 5 years of related experience.
• Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
• Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
• Compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations; candidate must pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical. A current DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may substitute for a DOT physical; if four months or less remain, a DOT physical is required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age due to interstate operating authority; valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain Driver Qualification File.
• Required certifications or obtained within 18 months: ASE T8 (PMI). Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), and 608/609.
• Skills & Abilities: problem-solving with new information, physical ability to lift and perform heavy labor, clear communication, teamwork, tool selection, distance judgment, logical reasoning.
