Job summary

UW Medicine's Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology in Seattle, WA seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist Trainee/1 for the Coagulation & Hematology Laboratory at UW Medical Center - Montlake. The role involves specialized testing, QA/QC, and support for bone marrow workups, with opportunities to train MLS students and residents.

Responsibilities include coagulation testing, hematology analyses, instrument maintenance, and data entry into LIS.

Qualifications

• Accredited bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent education/experience.
• Eligible to take the Medical Laboratory Scientist or categorical certification examination from ASCP within 18 months from hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform Coagulation testing (PT, PTT, Thrombin Time, Fibrinogen, Ddimer) and related assays on STAR Max.
• Perform Platelet Function Screen assays on the PFA-100 and related QA/QC.
• Perform Hematology testing including differential and smear review using Sysmex XN and Cytospin tools.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments daily/weekly/monthly per SOPs.
• Assist with training MLS students and residents; participate in QA/QC activities.
• Process and store samples, enter results into LIS, and communicate with Reference Lab Services as needed.
• Contribute to test development and support in Coagulation and Hematology sections.
