Job summary

Nominal is hiring a Software Engineer (Mission Dev) to operate at the intersection of software, customer deployment, and federal programs. You will embed with government customers, deploy software to DoD and other agencies, and own outcomes from initial integration through long-term success.

You will write production-grade code, build integrations, and influence platform evolution in sensitive environments. This role blends startup velocity with mission-critical requirements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering, forward-deployed engineering, or a role combining building with customer-facing work.
• Experience with or inside U.S. federal agencies, particularly DoD, and deploying software on government networks.
• Track record of shipping production software in dynamic or ambiguous environments.
• Strong systems thinking to understand end-to-end technical ecosystems.
• Clear communicator; able to write technical docs and present to executives.
• Willingness to travel up to 50%.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret clearance; active clearance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Write production-grade code and design integrations.
• Embed with federal customers on-site; deploy software in high-stakes environments.
• Bridge Nominal's platform to government program needs and success criteria.
• Manage deployments on government networks within accreditation and cybersecurity constraints.
• Collaborate across disciplines; iterate based on frontline feedback to improve toolkits.
