Job summary

Shawmut Design and Construction is seeking a Project Engineer for the Mission Critical team in Boston to help deliver data center construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. You’ll work with project managers, superintendents, trade partners, and owner reps to solve field challenges, coordinate critical building systems, and keep projects moving forward.

You will gain hands‑on exposure to the technical and operational sides of construction, strengthening your project management

Qualifications

• Experience: 1–3 years in industrial construction, data center or large MEP projects preferred.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Certifications: OSHA 30‑Hour Construction Certification, LEED AP or Green Associate, Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) or PE progression, Uptime Institute AOS/ATD a plus.
• Submittals/RFIs/Coordination: Demonstrated experience managing submittals, RFIs, subcontractor coordination, and project documentation.
• Data center systems knowledge: UPS, generators, switchgear, chillers, CRAC/CRAH, BMS/DCIM, and structured cabling familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Keep information moving and projects organized by managing logs and records.
• Coordinate with designers and owner representatives to review and process submittals, shop drawings, and product data.
• Prepare, track, and expedite RFIs to resolve field questions and avoid disruptions.
• Maintain organized project records including correspondence, meeting minutes, change orders, and pay applications.
• Support subcontractor pay application reviews and owner billing, gaining practical experience in project financial administration.
• Develop, update, and maintain project schedules with the Project Manager and Superintendent.
• Monitor subcontract budgets, purchase orders, and project costs to aid financial decisions.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers across multiple disciplines.
• Assist with commissioning coordination and system testing.
• Prepare weekly owner reports and assist in project updates to owners and hyperscale clients.
• Coordinate permit submissions, inspections, and CO requirements.
