Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Missile Modeling and Simulation Engineer to design physics-based engagement tools for threat assessment across diverse environments. You’ll build a modular C++ 6DoF simulator, enable researchers with analysis pipelines, and collaborate with aerodynamics, propulsion, and GNC specialists to advance missile modeling capabilities.

You will document findings for sponsors and lead software engineering best practices, including code

Qualifications

• BS in a technical field such as Aerospace, Electrical or related Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics.
• Experience as a core contributor in missile systems and/or aerospace vehicle modeling and simulation.
• Strong programming skills in C++, Python, and MATLAB.
• Proficiency in software version control and testing (unit/integration/regression).
• Ability and motivation to learn missile concepts to improve tools and perform engagement analyses.
• Eligible for US security clearance; US citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Guide and execute missile modeling concepts into a modular 6DoF C++ simulation for threat modeling.
• Develop and maintain analysis software tools, pipelines, and workflows.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of aerodynamicists, propulsion, and GNC experts.
• Prepare formal documentation for technical partners and sponsors.
• Lead software engineering best practices: code reviews, CI, and reusable libraries.
• Conduct one-vs-one and one-vs-few threat analyses of missile systems vs blue platforms.
