Mohawk Lifts LLC is hiring a Welder for the Amsterdam, NY facility. The role focuses on welding parts using GMAW and FCAW, following work instructions, and maintaining a clean, safe work area.

You will set jigs and fixtures, perform pre-heat and weld finishing, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives. Overtime may be required; strong attention to detail and English communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Welding vocational training or 1+ year experience in welding manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in welding steel and known welding processes (GMAW, FCAW).
  • Pre-heat, weld fit-up, weld prep, and weld finishing skills.
  • Experience with cranes and lifting methods; maintenance of welding equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Weld using various processes on current and evolving products.
  • Load parts into jigs and manipulate fixtures.
  • Follow safety requirements and maintain a clean work area.
  • Collaborate with supervision to improve welding processes.
  • Read tape measure and perform basic shop math.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

A Welder is responsible for welding activities, including maintaining an efficient and clean work environment to weld products utilizing fixtures. The Welder follows safety requirements and effectively participates in team activities including product development and lean manufacturing programs. This position works under the direction of the Welding Leader or other manufacturing leaders. This position requires ability to set jigs and fixtures and follow work instructions to weld various component parts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilize various welding processes to perform welding of current and evolving fabricated products.
  • Lift and carry work pieces manually or with hoist.
  • Load parts into jigs.
  • Perform duties in assigned areas including welding booths, open areas and temporary work areas.
  • Collaborate with Welding Supervisor to develop welding processes and recommend improvements where necessary.
  • Maintain knowledge and perform various welding processes, including but not limited to: Gas metal arc welding and Flux cored arc welding.
  • Perform pre-heat, weld fit-up, weld preparation, weld inspection, and weld finishing activities.
  • Read tape measure and use basic shop math.
  • Use oxy/acetylene torches or plasma cutters for heating and cutting steel materials.
  • Actively participate in cross training and continuous improvement assignments.
  • Maintain clean and organized work area conditions and comply with safety requirements.
  • Perform work in a safe manner, complete all required safety inspections and adhere to safety rules and guidelines including safely operate all tools & equipment if trained and assigned.
  • Produce a quality product in a timely manner.
  • Must successfully pass a welder qualification test in accordance with AWSD 1.1.
  • Fit up and weld some basic weldments without fixturing.
  • Maintains conformance with safety rules and regulations, if you are unclear of or uncomfortable with a safety process then you have an obligation to make your supervisor aware.
  • It is required that if you see or are made aware of a safety related issue or concern to immediately address it or make management aware.
  • Involved with continuous improvement efforts regarding all aspects of safety.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Work required overtime as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, and SKILLS:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Welding vocational training or a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a manufacturing environment in a welding role, including setting and adjusting weld settings based on material types and grades, desired weld bead size and quality, and degree of penetration.
  • Proficiency in welding steel.
  • Knowledgeable in welding processes including but not limited to: Gas metal arc welding and Flux cored arc welding.
  • Demonstrated skills in pre-heat, weld fit up, weld preparation, weld inspection, and weld finishing.
  • Experience with use of overhead cranes and lifting methods.
  • Familiarity with the use and simple maintenance of welding machines.
  • Ability to demonstrate high quality weldments through continual attention to detail and anticipate potential problems during the weld planning and design stages.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with management and co-workers.
  • Must be detail oriented with attention to accuracy.
  • Must understand English and be understood.
  • Basic shop math.
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work with various technologies.
