Job summary

Clifton Steel in Maple Heights, OH is seeking a skilled welder/fabricator to read shop drawings, assemble fabrications, and ensure workmanship meets established standards. You will interpret welding symbols, determine repair methods, operate plasma units and overhead cranes, and maintain a clean, safe work area.

We offer competitive hourly pay based on experience and a consistent Mon-Fri schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with comprehensive benefits and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

  • Read and interpret shop drawings and welding symbols.
  • Solid math skills and the ability to read drawings and welding processes.
  • Two to three years of welding experience in a fabrication facility.
  • High school diploma or GED; welding trade school preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret shop drawings, engineering drawings, and weld symbols.
  • Assemble and fit fabrications by following established processes.
  • Exercise technical independence in determining repair methods and procedures for customer materials and complete the required paperwork.
  • Maintain certification to AWS D1.1, 3G, 1-inch plate, vertical-up weld.
  • Operate fabrication equipment, including hand torches and portable plasma units.
  • Operate overhead cranes, tow motors, and other material‑handling equipment.
  • Perform minor maintenance on welding equipment.
  • Produce quality products on time and in accordance with established standards.
  • Disassemble fabrications as needed to remove and replace worn components.
  • Log in and out of the operating system to accurately record job progress and completion.
  • Maintain a clean work area, follow safe work practices, and wear required PPE.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Training and Experience:High school diploma or GED, welding trade school diploma, 3G certification, and two to three years of welding experience in a fabrication facility.
  • Quality Focus:Ability to plan and fabricate jobs efficiently without rework.
  • Technical Skills:Solid math skills and the ability to read and understand shop drawings, weld symbols, materials, and welding processes.
  • Problem‑Solving Ability:Able to identify problems, determine solutions, and work independently when needed.
  • Strong Work Ethic:Dependable, punctual, open to constructive feedback, and committed to producing quality work.
  • Positive Attitude:Willingness to learn, work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and contribute to a safe and respectful work environment.
  • Physical Ability:Must be able to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive motions, stoop, bend, twist, and lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Experience working in a metal fabrication facility.
  • Overhead crane experience.
  • Tow motor or other material‑handling equipment experience.
  • Experience using hand torches and portable plasma units.
