Job summary

Granite Construction seeks an Intern Field Engineer for the Midwest Region in Des Plaines, IL. The role supports construction engineering operations, interpreting drawings for bidding and field work, and preparing essential documentation for projects.

The internship emphasizes hands-on experience, mentorship, and safety awareness, with opportunities to work around large equipment and participate in cost-control activities.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED and be working towards a bachelor’s degree.
• 0-2 years construction estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar experience.

Responsibilities

• Interpret design/drawings for takeoff and workforce for bidding and building construction projects.
• Prepare and distribute documentation such as status reports, punch lists, sketches, material calculations.
• Provide technical support and direction regarding project materials, delivery dates and schedules.
• Assist with change orders and estimates by preparing drawings and sketches.
• Develop job essential data including quantity take-offs and material pricing for estimates.
