Kiewit is seeking a Design Engineer Intern in Des Moines, IA, to gain hands-on experience across construction management tasks. You will contribute to design engineering, review calculations, and develop plans while supporting safety and quality standards on active projects.

The internship offers exposure to project planning, scheduling, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, with opportunities for travel and future full-time roles within Kiewit.

Qualifications

• Travel or relocate as needed.
• Work full-time during the summer (May–August).
• Pursuing undergrad/grad in civil engineering, construction management or related.
• Enrollment at listed universities and Kiewit Scholars Program.
• Access to construction sites in varied environments.

Responsibilities

• Field engineering, planning, cost control, scheduling, material procurement, contract administration, and supervision of field activities.
• Perform engineering tasks using standard techniques and solve minor technical problems.
• Maintain records on job progress, costs, and material usage.
• Plan and schedule job segments to meet client needs.
• Investigate incidents and propose solutions as appropriate.
• Review plans and specs to determine material quantities and pricing.
• Coordinate with suppliers to expedite material delivery.
