Job summary

City of Detroit is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist to support Crisis Intervention Team officers as a co-response unit. The BHS will respond to mental health calls and provide wrap-around services during the midnight shift, 7 days a week.

The position involves crisis intervention, information & referral, and brief counseling, with emphasis on risk assessments, treatment planning, and community referrals. At minimum, a Master's in a relevant field is required or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• Two years related experience preferred; licensure preferred but not required.
• Bi-lingual preferred but not required; CADC/CAADC preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis intervention, suicide prevention, information & referral, and brief counseling.
• Develop case histories, wrap-around services, and individual treatment plans.
• Identify at-risk individuals and perform risk assessments with dispositions.
• Refer to mental health and substance use services and link to ongoing care.
• Maintain program databases and client records; report risks to management.
• Engage with community and law enforcement; coordinate with homelessness outreach teams.
