Job summary

Mount Vernon School is seeking substitute teachers for the Middle School (Grades 6-8) to cover classes in the absence of the regular teacher. Substitutes may be called for full-day or half-day, and must be available between 7:30 am and 3:00 pm. Advanced notice may not always be possible.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in education or related field (preferred) and a teaching certificate (preferred). Prior classroom experience and comfort with educational technology are also preferred by

Classroom experience and proficiency with technological tools and platforms (preferred).

Responsibilities

Reports to Front Office at beginning of school day to pick up materials and schedule.
Carries out lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning for students.
Guides learning toward curriculum goals as indicated in lesson plans.
Maintains a neat and orderly classroom and prepares materials.
Takes attendance and follows school procedures.
Ensures students are never left unattended in the classroom.
May perform duties such as lunchroom duty as needed.
Knows evacuation routes and school procedures.
Performs other duties as directed by Head of School.
