Job Summary

To serve the needs of special services students in the Big Hollow School District #38.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement Individualized Education Program, Functional Analysis of Behavior, and Behavior Intervention Plan. Development occurs at least once a year, with daily implementation.
  2. Coordinate services, IEP minutes, goal updates, and communication with home among team members.
  3. Understand formal and informal educational assessment processes and utilize various assessment strategies to support student development.
  4. Recognize student needs and collaborate with professional staff to address social, emotional, physical, and academic difficulties.
  5. Attend and participate in parent/teacher conferences.
  6. Maintain ongoing communication about students’ needs and upcoming meetings, providing prompt responses to parents.
  7. Collaborate with administrators, general education teachers, support staff, and paraprofessionals regarding student needs and respond promptly.
  8. Participate in building and district meetings to enhance articulation and programming.
  9. Assist in problem-solving and developing instruction for both special education and general education students.
  10. Communicate expectations and goals to students and their families, including strategies for achievement.
  11. Support transition points (e.g., changing grade levels, transitioning to middle school) to facilitate smooth transitions for children, families, and staff.
  12. Demonstrate knowledge of general education curriculum, grade level expectations, and state standards.
  13. Collaborate with general education teachers on assessment, curriculum adaptation, behavior management, and monitoring progress.
  14. Monitor progress of students with disabilities and adjust instruction as needed.
  15. Develop, implement, and monitor behavior management and instructional programs tailored to students' needs.
  16. Create safe, respectful, engaging, and inclusive learning environments.
  17. Select and adapt materials suitable for diverse student populations and skill levels.
  18. Assess developmental, cognitive, and social needs, providing appropriate instruction.
