Job description

Position Type:

Student Support Services/ Special Ed (LBS1) Resource

Purpose:

To serve the needs of students requiring special services in the Big Hollow School District #38.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP), Functional Analysis of Behavior, and Behavior Intervention Plan. Development occurs at least annually, with daily implementation.
2. Coordinate services, IEP minutes, goal updates, and communication with families and team members.
3. Understand formal and informal educational assessment processes and utilize various assessment strategies to support student development.
4. Recognize student needs and collaborate with professional staff to address social, emotional, physical, and academic challenges.
5. Participate in parent/teacher conferences and maintain ongoing communication regarding student needs and upcoming meetings, providing prompt responses to parents.
6. Collaborate regularly with administrators, general education teachers, support staff, and paraprofessionals regarding student needs and respond promptly.
7. Attend building and district meetings to enhance articulation and coordination of programs.
8. Assist in problem-solving and developing instructional strategies for both special education and general education students.
9. Communicate expectations, goals, and strategies to students and their families.
10. Support transitions (e.g., changing grade levels, transitioning to middle school) to facilitate smooth changes for students, families, and staff.
11. Maintain knowledge of general education curriculum, grade-level expectations, and state standards.
12. Collaborate with general education teachers on assessment, curriculum adaptation, behavior management, and monitoring student progress.
13. Monitor progress of students with disabilities, make instructional adjustments as needed.
14. Develop, implement, and monitor behavior management programs for students exhibiting behavioral challenges.
15. Create and adapt research-based instructional programs tailored to students' unique needs.
16. Establish and communicate developmentally appropriate behavioral expectations to students and families.
17. Create engaging, respectful, safe, and inclusive learning environments that are culturally and ability sensitive.
18. Select, adapt, and individualize instructional materials for diverse student populations.
19. Assess students' developmental, cognitive, and social needs and tailor instruction accordingly.
