Position Type:
Student Support Services/ Special Ed (LBS1) Resource
Purpose:
To serve the needs of students requiring special services in the Big Hollow School District #38.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP), Functional Analysis of Behavior, and Behavior Intervention Plan. Development occurs at least annually, with daily implementation.
- Coordinate services, IEP minutes, goal updates, and communication with families and team members.
- Understand formal and informal educational assessment processes and utilize various assessment strategies to support student development.
- Recognize student needs and collaborate with professional staff to address social, emotional, physical, and academic challenges.
- Participate in parent/teacher conferences and maintain ongoing communication regarding student needs and upcoming meetings, providing prompt responses to parents.
- Collaborate regularly with administrators, general education teachers, support staff, and paraprofessionals regarding student needs and respond promptly.
- Attend building and district meetings to enhance articulation and coordination of programs.
- Assist in problem-solving and developing instructional strategies for both special education and general education students.
- Communicate expectations, goals, and strategies to students and their families.
- Support transitions (e.g., changing grade levels, transitioning to middle school) to facilitate smooth changes for students, families, and staff.
- Maintain knowledge of general education curriculum, grade-level expectations, and state standards.
- Collaborate with general education teachers on assessment, curriculum adaptation, behavior management, and monitoring student progress.
- Monitor progress of students with disabilities, make instructional adjustments as needed.
- Develop, implement, and monitor behavior management programs for students exhibiting behavioral challenges.
- Create and adapt research-based instructional programs tailored to students' unique needs.
- Establish and communicate developmentally appropriate behavioral expectations to students and families.
- Create engaging, respectful, safe, and inclusive learning environments that are culturally and ability sensitive.
- Select, adapt, and individualize instructional materials for diverse student populations.
- Assess students' developmental, cognitive, and social needs and tailor instruction accordingly.
