Job Description

Special Education Middle focuses on K12-powered virtual middle schools with personalized learning programs, engaging courses, compassionate teachers, and a vibrant school community. Responsible for program structure and resources to maximize the special education experience for both students and learning coaches. Responsible for relationship building with families, students, and learning coaches to ensure that all students are progressing successfully through the program. Bachelor’s degree, 0-1 year of related professional experience.

Certificates and Licenses: Appropriate current Oklahoma special education teaching license OR proof of application.

Residency Requirement: Oklahoma residents required.

The Middle School special education teacher is a highly qualified, state-certified educator responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. Middle School Special education teachers provide instruction, support, and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs. They monitor student progress through K12’s learning management system and work closely with students and parents/Learning Coaches to support student achievement. Typically, they work from home but may travel to school functions as needed.

This is a full-time remote position requiring independent work, typically 40+ hours per week, and a professional home office environment.

Essential Functions

• Take ownership of students’ academic progress and attendance, communicate expectations, and actively support achievement.
• Prepare students for standardized tests.
• Conduct a minimum of 15 hours of live synchronous teaching per week.
• Support objectives asynchronously, including email communication, lesson planning, and data analysis.
• Collaborate with teams and trainers on instruction, resources, and interventions.
• Be receptive to coaching and feedback.
• Augment course content as guided, using appropriate tools.
• Submit grades and student work, maintain grade books, and generate progress reports.
• Travel up to 20% for testing, professional development, and meetings.

Relationship Building

• Establish positive rapport with families and communicate regularly with students and learning coaches.
• Support learning environment setup and troubleshooting.
• Understand diverse student and family needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure student success and task distribution.
• Respond promptly to stakeholders.

Other Essential Functions

• Organize social and educational activities, including virtual clubs and events.
• Travel as needed for testing and professional development.

Compensation & Benefits: Salaries are based on education, experience, and other factors. Offers typically fall within the lower half of the salary range.
