Job summary

Sioux Falls School District is seeking a RISE Special Education Support Professional at Memorial Middle School in Sioux Falls, SD. This 0.875 FTE position provides 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a 9-month schedule and a $1,000 sign-on bonus.

The role requires at least two years of post high school education (or equivalent test), experience with individuals with disabilities, and ability to perform personal care and 1:1 instruction under teacher direction.

Qualifications

• Two years of post high school education or higher, or be able to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota, for designated Education Assistant positions.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities or experience with behavior management.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical (if new hires) and safety competency review on a yearly basis.

Responsibilities

• Assists students in accessing transportation.
• Provides personal care to students with special daily living needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, physical management) in accordance with established safety competencies.
• Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
• Works with students in schools and in community sites.
• Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
• Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives with children as directed by the teacher/therapist.
• Provides assistance to maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance, data for progress notes).
• Monitors identified student(s) in lunchroom/on playground.
• Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
• Assists with management of student behavior.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
