Charlotte Latin School seeks an engaging, full-time Middle School History and Social Sciences teacher to begin in the 2025-2026 school year. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, assessing, and modifying a dynamic History program that aligns with Charlotte Latin School’s mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities Include
  1. Collaborate with department members on pedagogy and curricular scope and sequence;
  2. Use a variety of methods, materials, and techniques to teach multiple sections of Middle School History;
  3. Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively interacting in meaningful learning experiences;
  4. Communicate proactively and effectively with teaching partners, students, parents, and school administrators;
  5. Evaluate student behavior and performance to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning;
  6. Serve as middle school advisor to approximately 12 students;
  7. Coach or assist in coaching a sport or sponsor an extracurricular activity, such as Student Council, service club, or Model UN;
  8. Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the Head of Middle School.
Qualifications Required
  1. Bachelor's degree in history, history education, or a related field is preferred;
  2. Teaching experience, preferably in an independent school;
  3. A passion for learning and the ability to motivate and inspire students;
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  5. Strong initiative, classroom management, and organizational skills;
  6. A desire to nurture the growth of early adolescents - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor;

Qualifications Desired
  1. Master's degree in history, education, or a related field;
  2. Proven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practice;
  3. Capacity and desire to teach across content areas and grade levels;
  4. Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches;
  5. Experience in and desire to build culture and community with both adults and students;
  6. Proficient use of technology to support education;
  7. Experience as an academic advisor.
Working Conditions and Environment
  1. Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
  2. Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity.
  3. Frequently talk and hear.
  4. Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
  5. Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold.
  6. Long or odd hours, as needed.
