Charlotte Latin School seeks an engaging, full-time Middle School History and Social Sciences teacher to begin in the 2025-2026 school year. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, assessing, and modifying a dynamic History program that aligns with Charlotte Latin School’s mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities Include
- Collaborate with department members on pedagogy and curricular scope and sequence;
- Use a variety of methods, materials, and techniques to teach multiple sections of Middle School History;
- Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively interacting in meaningful learning experiences;
- Communicate proactively and effectively with teaching partners, students, parents, and school administrators;
- Evaluate student behavior and performance to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning;
- Serve as middle school advisor to approximately 12 students;
- Coach or assist in coaching a sport or sponsor an extracurricular activity, such as Student Council, service club, or Model UN;
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the Head of Middle School.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in history, history education, or a related field is preferred;
- Teaching experience, preferably in an independent school;
- A passion for learning and the ability to motivate and inspire students;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong initiative, classroom management, and organizational skills;
- A desire to nurture the growth of early adolescents - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor;

Qualifications Desired
- Master's degree in history, education, or a related field;
- Proven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practice;
- Capacity and desire to teach across content areas and grade levels;
- Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches;
- Experience in and desire to build culture and community with both adults and students;
- Proficient use of technology to support education;
- Experience as an academic advisor.
Working Conditions and Environment
- Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
- Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity.
- Frequently talk and hear.
- Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
- Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold.
- Long or odd hours, as needed.
