Job description

POSITION TITLE:

Middle School Dean of Students

REPORTS TO:

Principal

Job Purpose Statement:

Overall student management and addressing student attendance issues. Other responsibilities include managing student behavior, interventions, and related processes.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Investigate discipline referrals, ensuring due process for students.
  2. Consult with the principal/assistant principal on appropriate consequences for behavior, such as detention, in-school suspension, and out-of-school suspension.
  3. Communicate infractions, investigation outcomes, and assigned consequences to parents/guardians.
  4. Draft re-entry plans and facilitate re-entry meetings with students, parents, and teachers, including strategies to repair harm.
  5. Assist in developing and implementing individual student behavior plans and interventions.
  6. Counsel students and parents regarding school policies and district expectations.
  7. Coordinate alternative education placements as needed.
Other Job Functions:
  1. Assist staff and parents in developing behavioral strategies for students.
  2. Help develop programs to promote positive behavior and interventions.
  3. Monitor and supervise students.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements - Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of three years of successful teaching or relevant experience with increasing responsibilities in a school setting.

Attendance: Regular attendance is essential to fulfill job responsibilities.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Ability to manage students and programs, communicate effectively, and problem-solve. Knowledge of discipline procedures, education code, and district policies. Ability to sit for extended periods, provide direction, make independent judgments, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Physical abilities include reaching, handling, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.

Licenses and Certifications: Teacher certification for grades 6-8 or Counseling K-12; current or in-progress Administrative Certification for K-8.

This position will be paid according to the Teacher's Salary Schedule.
