Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a mid-level Protection and Control Engineer to join our Renewables Substation team in Westminster, Colorado.

You will lead P&C design for large renewable energy projects, coordinating with relay settings, SCADA, and other discipline leads to ensure cohesive documentation and compliance with industry standards. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and 4+ years of HV substation P&C design experience, with strong knowledge

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• 4+ years of experience in high voltage substation P&C design.
• Strong knowledge of substation zones of protection.
• Experience with typical protection and control schemes for transmission lines, HV/MV buses, transformers, capacitor banks.
• Ability to incorporate relays into designs to achieve protection.
• Familiarity with substation equipment specifications, schematics and wiring (HV/MV breakers, transformers, instrument transformers, disconnects, LV systems).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NESC, NERC standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of P&C design for HV (4kV–230kV) and EHV (>230kV) substation projects.
• Develop study calculations: load, transformer sizing, DC load, CT saturation, voltage drop.
• Assist with major equipment specifications and review vendor submittals.
• Coordinate cross-discipline checks with other substation leads.
• Attend project meetings and support procurement and construction tasks.
