Job summary

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer for our New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Massachusetts offices. The role focuses on water-space structures, including drinking water and wastewater facilities, with fieldwork and occasional travel.

You will mentor staff, lead projects, and provide technical direction across the Northeast and Midwest businesses. You should have a Civil Engineering degree with a structural focus, a PE license or eligibility within 6 months, and 5–12

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering (Structural Concentration) or Structural Engineering is required.
• PE license or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
• 5–12 years of related experience in structural design and construction.
• Experience with structural steel, reinforced concrete, reinforced masonry, and aluminum; knowledge of ACI/AISC/ASCE codes and design software.
• Effective communication and ability to work in a multi-discipline team.

Responsibilities

• Project engineering/management, mentoring and developing junior staff, site inspections and assessments.
• Perform assessments, design, and construction tasks for water and wastewater structures.
• Produce design calculations, reports, permitting, and detailed plans for environmental structures.
• Participate in construction tasks including submittal reviews, RFIs, site inspections, and clarifications.
• Provide technical engineering leadership and staff development.
