Job summary

Hazen and Sawyer seeks a Principal Structural Engineer for our New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Massachusetts offices. The role supports a wide range of water-related projects, with fieldwork and occasional travel as needed.

The position emphasizes client development, project leadership, and mentoring within Hazen’s Northeast and Midwest teams. The ideal candidate will have a Civil Engineering degree with a structural concentration, a PE license (or ability to obtain within 6 months), and

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering (Structural concentration preferred) or Structural Engineering.
• PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• 5–12 years of related experience.
• Experience in design and construction of structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and aluminum; knowledge of ACI, AISC, ASCE.
• Effective communicators and able to work in a multi-discipline team environment.

Responsibilities

• Project engineering/management, mentoring and developing junior staff, site inspections and assessments of existing infrastructure.
• Design, permitting, and construction tasks for water and wastewater projects.
• Produce design calculations, technical reports, permitting, and detailed plans for environmental structures.
• Participate in construction tasks including submittal review, RFIs, site inspections and clarifications.
• Provide technical engineering leadership and staff development.
