Job summary

Torch Technologies seeks a Mid-Level Linux System Administrator to support DoD missions in Huntsville, AL. You will configure enterprise Linux systems, write Ansible playbooks, and manage containerized services in secure environments.

The role requires US citizenship, 4–10 years of Linux experience, relevant DoD certifications, and an active Secret clearance with potential upgrade to TS. Schedule is M-F, on-site at customer location.

Qualifications

• US Citizenship required.
• Associate's or Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 4–10 years Linux administration experience in classified environments.
• DoD 8570/8140 IAT-II certification (e.g., Security+) within 90 days, and Linux-focused cert (RHCSA/RHCE/Linux+).
• Active Secret clearance with ability to upgrade to Top Secret.

Responsibilities

• Configure, harden, and maintain enterprise Linux systems (Rocky/RHEL) per DoD guidelines and STIGs.
• Develop and test Ansible playbooks to automate patching and provisioning.
• Deploy and manage containerized services (Podman/Docker) and virtual environments (OpenShift, KVM, VMware).
• Perform vulnerability scans and lifecycle maintenance on hardware and peripherals.
• Provide deep-dive troubleshooting for Linux kernels, runtimes, networks, and bare-metal integrations.

Torch Technologies is seeking a motivated Mid-Level Linux System Administrator with a strong background in Linux and security. Must be able to work in a team environment. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills both oral and written; exhibit the ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, work environment servicing multiple organizations. Off Hours support may occasionally be required as mission dictates.

Responsibilities

• Linux Infrastructure & Security Integration: Configure, harden, and maintain enterprise Linux systems (primarily Rocky and RHEL) in accordance with DoW guidelines, STIGs, and RMF security standards.
• Ansible Automation & IaC: Write, test, and execute Ansible playbooks and roles to automate operating system patching, baseline provisioning, compliance drift remediation, and routine system maintenance across the lab footprint.
• Containerization & Virtualization: Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot containerized application services (Podman, Docker) and virtual environments (OpenShift Virtualization, KVM, VMware) to maintain high-fidelity digital representations of physical test environments.
• Hardware & System Maintenance: Perform vulnerability scans, system auditing, and lifecycle maintenance. Handle the installation, configuration, and integration of specialized HWIL system hardware and peripheral interface assets.
• System Optimization & Troubleshooting: Provide deep-dive technical support for Linux OS kernels, container runtimes, network interfaces, and bare-metal integrations to resolve complex infrastructure bottlenecks.

Job Requirements

• US Citizenship.
• Associate's or Bachelor's in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 4-10 years related Linux administration experience within classified environments.
• Experience and certifications related to virtualization technologies, such as VMWare.
• Must meet, or willing to obtain within 90 days, industry requirements for DoW 8570/8140 IAT-II certification (e.g., Security+), as well as a Linux-focused technical certification (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE, Linux+).
• Experience with security best practices, including scanning, patching, and the application and maintenance of STIGs.
• Ability to work within a diverse team to develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for installation, configuration, and security procedures.
• Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
• Must have an Active current Secret clearance, with the ability to upgrade to Top Secret.

Preferred Attributes

• Active Top Secret clearance.
• Knowledge of, and the ability to apply, OPSEC principles and professional conduct required for working within secure environments.
• Familiarity with Windows environments and Active Directory domain services.
• Experience with building or managing container images and local YUM/DNF repositories in air-gapped environments.
• Experience with log centralizing technologies, such as ELK Stack or Splunk.
