Job summary

KBR, Inc. is seeking a Mid Astro Software Engineer in Colorado Springs to develop secure end-to-end cloud lifecycles and implement containerization with Kubernetes or Docker. You will build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, apply GitOps for automation, and ensure secure software delivery across DoW-aligned projects.

You will work across multiple stacks, including Java and legacy Fortran/C++, with AWS experience and strong DevSecOps practices, contributing to secure, scalable defense software systems.

Qualifications

• Secret Clearance or above
• Experience with astrodynamics propagation methods and perturbation models
• Strong celestial/terrestrial frame transformations and time scales knowledge
• Experience with numerical methods (root finding, interpolation)
• 3-5 years’ of experience developing web-based applications
• 3-5 years’ experience with Kubernetes or Docker
• Experience with Java and Spring Boot (REST APIs, microservices or distributed systems)
• Experience with AWS and cloud technologies
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps
• Proficient in AWS/GitLab/Ansible/Maven/Gradle tools
• Experience with Test Driven Development
• Experience with unit/integration testing
• Scripting: Matlab, Python, Bash

Responsibilities

• Work across multiple technology stacks to support diverse applications
• Oversee development and optimization of astrodynamics algorithms across teams
• Design and maintain applications primarily in Java with modern patterns
• Support legacy components with C++ and Python as needed
• Collaborate on updating a legacy system including Fortran and C++
• Participate in CI/CD pipelines focusing on security and automation (GitLab)
• Implement DevSecOps practices across the development lifecycle
• Ensure log management and analytics for system monitoring
• Collaborate with GitLab and automation tools like Ansible, Maven, Gradle
• Stay current with cloud technologies and evolving security threats
• Work with databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Oracle, MySQL
• Follow Agile/DevOps/DevSecOps methodologies to improve efficiency
