Job summary

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) invites applications for a full-time Microassembly Technician in the Integrated Receiver Development group at the Central Development Laboratory in Charlottesville, VA. The role focuses on assembling and testing low-noise receiver modules for radio astronomy instrumentation, including die mounting, wire-bonding, and cryogenic measurements.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent; bachelor preferred.
• 10 years of experience in electrical/electronic technology.
• Experience with RF and microwave measurement equipment.
• Experience assembling microwave or millimeter-wave components.

Responsibilities

• Assemble multichip receiver modules from engineering designs, including BOMs and manufacturing files.
• Organize stock and coordinate with in-house machine shop for custom parts.
• Mount and wire-bond bare die, assemble components, and prepare testing fixtures as needed.
• Test modules using VNAs, spectrum analyzers, and cryogenic equipment in-room and at cryogenic temps.
• Record test results, maintain procedures, and document measurement conditions.
