Job summary

SGS is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support food pathogen detection analyses in a busy lab environment. You will operate equipment, prepare samples, and ensure compliance with SOPs and test methods. Responsibilities include maintaining instruments, recording quality data, reporting deficiencies, and documenting corrective actions.

A Bachelor's in Microbiology or related field and experience with LIMS and Office 365 are required. Typical schedule is Sunday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or related field, or commercial laboratory experience.
  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft Office 365; experience with LIMS.

Responsibilities

  • Handles samples and performs analyses according to SOPs and test methods.
  • Maintains and verifies laboratory equipment.
  • Reports deficiencies or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Maintains records of all quality activities per SOPs and test methods.
  • Identifies and documents nonconformities on Corrective Action Requests.

Job Description

This job operates in a lab environment with equipment such as analytical balances, food homogenization equipment, pipetting tools, incubators, water baths, plate readers, various commercial protein and DNA based technologies for food pathogen detection (VIDAS, BAX, GDS, GeneUp, BioRAd), spectrophotometer, VITEK Microbial Identification System, basic wet chemistry equipment for analysis of moisture, protein, fat, ash, salt.

  • Handles samples and performs analyses according to Operating Procedures and test methodology
  • Maintains and verifies equipment
  • Reports deficiencies or malfunction to the supervisor
  • Maintains records of all quality activities as documented in Operating Procedures and test methods
  • Identifies and records nonconformities on Corrective Action Requests.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or related field or commercial laboratory experience
  • Computer Skills: Basic use of Microsoft Office 365 Suite required, experience with LIMS system
  • Regularly operates laboratory equipment such as analytical balances, food homogenization equipment, pipetting tools, incubators, water baths, plate readers, various commercial protein and DNA based technologies for food pathogen detection (VIDAS, BAX, GDS, GeneUp, BioRAd), spectrophotometer, VITEK Microbial Identification System.

Shift Schedule Requirements

Candidates must be available to work the following schedule:

  • Sunday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Please note that schedules may be adjusted based on business needs and operational requirements. Due to the nature of our testing services, the laboratory operates weekends and holidays, and candidates must be willing to work as needed to support business demands.
