Job summary

SGS is seeking a Microbiologist III to perform diverse test methods and serve as study director, ensuring all work is conducted per GMP/GLP/ISO and client specifications. You will train incoming staff, participate in SOP/protocol approvals, and maintain strict documentation in accordance with cGMP.

You will prepare media and reagents, conduct analyses per USP/EP/ASTM and other procedures, and mentor junior staff while ensuring quality and timely results. This role supports a robust QA program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Microbiology or related sciences required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a regulated commercial lab.
  • Experience with sterility testing (USP <71>).
  • Strong knowledge of scientific principles.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares media and reagents for microbiological analyses.
  • Conducts analyses per USP, EP ASTM, AOAC, FDA, EPA and client procedures.
  • Schedules analyses to meet deadlines while ensuring quality.
  • Practices aseptic techniques and follows lab SOPs.
  • Maintains accurate records and adheres to SOPs.
  • Performs QA tasks including equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Mentors and trains new microbiologists; documents activities per cGMP.
  • Maintains orderly work area and logs data in notebooks/LIMS.

Job Description

The Microbiologist III will conduct a variety of specific test methods, and as study director is responsible for conducting all studies both according to applicable standards and regulations (GMP/GLP/ISO) and according to clients' specifications. Microbiologist III also plays a key role within the department by helping to train incoming staff and by participating in the approval process for SOPs/protocols.

  • Prepares media and reagents required for the conduct of microbiological analyses
  • Conducts analyses of samples in accordance with USP, EP ASTM, AOAC, FDA, EPA, or other compendia procedures, procedures supplied by the client, and other non-routine procedures as encountered
  • Schedules analyses so that completion deadlines are met but also so that analyses are thoroughly and thoughtfully conducted
  • Practices aseptic techniques and disinfection per laboratory SOPs
  • Responsible for accurate and timely recordkeeping, diligently following standards for analysis and SOPs
  • Accountable for quality assurance tasks vital to the position, including, but not limited to, lab area monitoring, media qualification, incubator, instrument and equipment calibration, and maintenance and sterilization procedures
  • Access appropriate technical references and document data in notebooks and LIMS
  • Data entry, receiving/returning calls, sending/receiving information, copying of documents, processing assignments
  • Mentor and train new microbiologists as needed
  • Documents activities in accordance with cGMP
  • Maintains orderly work area
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Microbiology or related sciences required;
  • 5+ years of experience in a regulated commercial lab environment.
  • Experience with sterility testing (USP <71>)
  • Thorough knowledge of scientific principles
