Job summary

Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) invites applications for a Meter Relay Technician or Trainee to install, test, commission, troubleshoot and maintain protective relaying systems and associated equipment in a public utility setting.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and reliability while supporting community electric service. Trainee progression is through a three-year program, with completion leading to journey status.

Qualifications

• Understanding of electricity concepts, basic math, wiring and connections.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with teammates and other departments.
• Experience or training in protective relaying is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, and commission meters, relays, control circuits and telemetering equipment.
• Test and calibrate relays, meters, transformers, and related equipment; record results and maintain data.
• Read electrical drawings (one-lines, schematics, diagrams) and develop test plans and procedures.
• Assist Crew Leader in design, planning, and cost estimates for future jobs.
• Lead or participate in crew tailboard discussions to ensure safe, efficient work.
• Plan jobs and schedule work with the Crew Leader.
