Job summary

Ball Corporation seeks a Metal Research & Development Engineering Intern in Westminster, CO for a 10-week program. You will gain design knowledge of consumer packaging, tooling, and machine parts used in metal containers across a global organization.

You will create drawings, design components, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with pilots on the plant floor, with a development-focused timeframe and potential for full-time consideration after graduation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Eligible to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• At least one year of coursework completed with graduation December 2027 or later.
• Familiarity with CAD software (NX preferred) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
• Basic mathematical calculations and engineering principles.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Create and interpret mechanical engineering drawings using Ball’s standards and GD&T.
• Design and measure cans, bottles, tooling, and machine parts with advanced tools.
• Troubleshoot container and equipment issues through hands-on analysis in lab and manufacturing environments.
• Collaborate with the pilot line team to develop sample containers and test against performance specs.
• Support project implementation including equipment installation, check-out, and start-up.
• Generate technical reports and update specifications for containers and tooling.
• Attend professional development activities including a week at Ball’s Colorado headquarters.
