Job summary

Kimley-Horn's Orlando office seeks an Electrical Engineer with 4+ years’ experience to join our MEP team on site. You will lead design, analysis, and coordination of electrical systems for large-scale projects, developing layouts, schematics, and one-line diagrams.

Join a collaborative, growth-oriented practice and mentor junior staff while coordinating with fire alarm, lighting, and architectural disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.

Qualifications

  • Four-plus years of electrical engineering experience within MEP contexts.
  • Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams and mentor staff.

Responsibilities

  • Support MEP team on large-scale projects for electrical systems.
  • Lead design and analysis of complex electrical systems for MEP projects.
  • Develop design documents: layouts, equipment schematics, and one-line diagrams.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across Kimley-Horn offices.
  • Prepare specifications and proposals to grow electrical services locally and nationally.
  • Mentor junior staff and help grow the MEP practice.
  • Coordinate with fire alarm, technology, and lighting design as required.
  • Coordinate with architects and other engineers for power needs and sizing.

Overview

Kimley-Horn's Orlando, Florida (FL) office is seeking an Electrical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their MEP team! This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities
  • Support our Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing team specifically working on large scale projects
  • Lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for MEPprojects
  • Responsible for the development of design documents and reports, including electrical layouts, equipment schematics and block diagrams, electrical system calculations, and one-line diagrams
  • Daily interaction and collaboration on multi-disciplinary teams, with interaction across Kimley-Horn offices
  • Prepare project specifications, and proposals, supporting the growth of electrical engineering service areas in the local market and across the country
  • Expected to assist in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand our MEP practice
  • Responsible for the development of reports and design documents, including electrical design plans, equipment selection, and power analyses
  • Coordinate with specialists for fire alarm, technology and lighting design as required by project scope of work
  • Coordinate with architects, mechanical/plumbing engineers and other disciplines for equipment power needs and sizing electrical distribution
Qualifications
  • 4+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code, IEEE and ANSI Standards, Fire Alarm Codes, Building and Energy Codes.
  • Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings, as needed
  • Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff
  • Preferred
    • Experience in building and associated site power distribution systems.
    • Experience in Fire Alarm systems.
    • Experience in lighting controls and photometric calculations.
    • Experience in engineering project management
    • Proficiency in Revit
    • Experience in power system analysis using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent
